Facebook going into the Music business

Facebook is said to be teaming up with Spotify, Pandora and others in order to get into the Music industry.

The strategy would be for users to engage into streaming music and sharing it with their friends, as well as finding out what they are listening to, so they can all recommend their musical tastes among themselves. In other words, the same idea as
with their other services.

Anybody could ask why they are doing this, particularly considering that potential competitor Myspace has been there for years, but the answer is simple: to do the very same thing they did to Myspace when Facebook challenged their leadership in terms of social media.

Music enthusiasts and, particularly, Musicians will most likely stick to platforms they are familiar with because they know how they work and feel at ease operating and doing things like launching their own marketing campaigns. In that case, Myspace could prove to be a hard nut to crack since the platform is especially liked by people who are into music, but they need to get with the program because they cannot afford to loose users to Facebook by taking as long as they did to make changes to the user interface and services, which is what happened the last time a major revamp took place. A deciding factor in this game will be the way Facebook is able to undertake an achievement of precisely that same scale.

In any case, it must be said that the Menlo Park company would need to stop irritating all Facebook users with constant modifications to the privacy, format, tagging, location based services, security, and other policies. If they end up doing the same to music enthusiasts, like me, it might get to the point where we will not even conceive Facebook as a possible candidate for our favorite place to enjoy and share good music. We might just keep the current one being used or go somewhere else rather than having to go through the hassle, especially if we are not correctly informed about the real intentions of those changes.
